Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord (peripheral nerves) which often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in the hands and feet. Nerve crush has been performed in animal peripheral nerves, and the effect both on pain, motor function, and other aspects of peripheral nerve function has been evaluated by behavioral observation, EMG studies, and immunohistology. AniTech offers two peripheral nerve injury models: optical nerve crush and sciatic nerve crush<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:36px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-6f0b0855bc9d643ef3afec6d1015cd9c\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\"><strong>Optical Nerve Crush<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-medium-font-size\">Optic nerve crush is an excellent peripheral nerve injury model as there is little to no spontaneous remyelination occurs on regenerated axons without a remyelination treatment. This method is highly reproducible and provides a consistent time course and injury region for pathology analysis, and is valuable for testing treatments or manipulations of altering remyelination. Also, this method will generate quantitative data on the effectiveness of myelination treatments on rodents before moving onto the next phase of pre-clinical trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:33px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-bb65356f575020030eb7862f61329eae\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\"><strong>Sciatic Nerve Crush<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Sciatic nerve crush is a suitable peripheral nerve injury model to explore the therapeutic potential of drug candidates in terms of motor and sensory functions . This model is also highly reproducible with consistent recovery timeline. Using assays such as pinprick, EMG, sciatic functional index (SFI) and immunohistology, we can quantitatively determine the therapeutic potential and identify potential side effects of drug candidates. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peripheral nerves are prone to damage in traumatic injury with low recovery rate.
