The manifestation of these motor-related symptoms is due to the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia, the motor control center. There are several factors that contribute to Parkinson&#8217;s pathogenesis, including increased \u03b1-synuclein aggregation and mitochondrial dysfunction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5430c28228f0de9fe9d3f6950dfbefcd\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\">The four main symptoms of the disease are:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"color:#4e98ff\" class=\"wp-block-list has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a1d40203e69f951b3a0ff8179fd9376a\">\n<li>Tremor in hands, arms, legs, jaw, or head<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle stiffness, where the muscle remains contracted for a long time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slowness of movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impaired balance and coordination, sometimes leading to falls<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c05bf5383dd9ad40341ada862b897ae7\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\">Other symptoms may include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"color:#4e98ff\" class=\"wp-block-list has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8ce3c10aee1e5e1bddd3e5a0bd311830\">\n<li>Depression and other emotional changes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty swallowing, chewing, and speaking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urinary problems or constipation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skin problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-medium-font-size\">Currently, there are no cures for PD. Options such as medication, surgical treatment and other forms of therapeutics are available to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with PD, such as bradykinesia.  As the pathogenesis of PD involves the loss of dopamine-producing neurons, drug-based treatment aims to increase the overall level of dopamine by introducing L-DOPA, a precursor of the target neurotransmitter.  There are a lot of side effects associated with this treatment, and it does not slow down the disease progression. Thus, there are ongoing R&amp;D efforts in developing a more effective treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:37px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-2d8713c5ecfc8bb70e6b7322d7a238f6\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\"><strong>Animal models for Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>AniTech provides two types of drug-induced mouse disease models of PD: the Rotenone-induced and the 6-OHDA-induced mouse model of Parkinson&#8217;s.  Both animal models can achieve degenerative changes of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra(SN), part of the basal ganglia.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-fa5a1a48bf6799056e534269030facaf\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\"><strong>Rotenone Mouse Model<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Rotenone is a naturally occurring toxin that inhibits complex I of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. The rotenone model of Parkinson\u2019s Disease (PD) provides certain advantages in modelling the pathogenesis of PD.<br><br>In this model, systemic inhibition of mitochondrial complex I produces selective degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine system and reproduces key pathological features of clinical PD. The systemic rotenone model of PD accurately replicates many aspects of the pathology of human PD and has provided insights into the pathogenesis of PD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:62px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-50c8794514efece921ee81e4ff251260\" style=\"color:#4e98ff\"><strong>6-OHDA Mouse Model<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>6-OHDA is a neurotoxin that can induce the rapid death of dopaminergic neurons in SNpc, which leads to the occurrence of some PD symptoms related to movements.
